“We’ll go for it”
By: j | December 8th, 2008Hubb Steven’s summed upon the clubs approach to tomorrows Champions League match against Liverpool at Philips Stadion simply by stating:
“We knew we would face a tall task. We still have a slender mathematical chance of qualifying, so we’ll go for it.”
PSV’s chances of advancing to the UEFA Cup are quite slim and reliant upon bettering Olympique de Marseille’s result against Atlético de Madrid.
PSV will face the match without the services of Ibrahim Afellay and Jan Kromkamp with Nordin Amrabat and Danny Koevermans doubtful although Danny is insistent he’ll be a part of the lineup. Given they have already qualified for the next round Rafael Benítez is less inclined to fret the match although they have maintained a serious demeanor. The Reds will be missing Fábio Aurélio, Philipp Degen, Dirk Kuyt and Fernando Torres for the match.
In the Anfield meeting of the two, Liverpool defeated PSV 3-1 with little opposition from the visitors. Since that match, PSV has hardly inspired confidence and regardless of their come from behind victory this weekend over FC Groningen, Liverpool will know how to play a tactically minded match and prey upon defensive errors. Success is needed in this match, if they are capitalize on a golden opportunity to advance UEFA Cup along with fellow Eredivisie sides Ajax and Twente.
I will report on the match as it concludes.
