Herman Teeuwen memorial trophy
By: j | July 30th, 2008

PSG travelled to Seacon Stadium to meet VVV Venlo in memory of the late Herman Teeuwen who dedicated his playing and coaching career to the club.
PSV employed Danko Lazovic as the lone striker and it was only three minutes into the match before Ibrahim Afellay opened the scoring on a slick one-two between Danko. That was the lone goal until Sandro Calabro tied the match for Venlo in added-time. As an added bonus for the fans, the match went to a penalty shoot-out which was won by Venlo who retains the trophy. A noble conclusion to a match built upon a beautiful message.
Hubb Stevens used the match to incorporate a series of athletes coming back from injuries, most notably Edison Méndez. Excluded from the match with either injuries or Olympic commitments were Otman Bakkal, Dirk Marcellis, Erik Pieters, Jérémie Bréchet, Danny Koevermans, Jan Kromkamp, Bas Roorda, Stijn Wuytens, Jonathan Reis and Reimond Manco. The continuing message throughout each of these friendlies is the tight defensive strangle that El Tri and Chivas alumni Maza Rodríguez and Carlos Salcido have created. This combination will reap tremendous benefits this season.
