KNVB Cup – a family affair!
By: j | September 23rd, 2008As many are aware around the Footballing world this week there are many domestic competitions. Whether it is France’s Coupe de la Ligue, Englands “Carling Cup” (League Cup) or Scotland’s Scottish League Cup (”CIS Insurance Cup”) to name only a few they are interesting opportunities to pit top flight clubs against lower tiers.
One of the great things of these tournaments is how clubs will often use this as an opportunity to use younger untested players and a chance for supporters to peer into the future. With this in mind I am pleased to see how Hubb Stevens will be giving many of the younger players their opportunity as PSV faces PSV Jong later today. Quite obviously this is unique “family match” in which the senior PSV squad faces reserves, however I applaud Mr. Stevens for his approach to this match in which he’ll make sure younger players are used and the reserves put their best foot forward. One bright start of the future that we’ll get to see is seventeen year-old Antwerp native Funso Ojo. Funso is a highly promising defensive midfielder and is likely to crack the senior squad on a regular basis within a year or two at his present development rate.
I will report on the match after it concludes.
