Newcastle today
By: j | August 6th, 2008The squad took off early yesterday for the series of friendlies scheduled in England that will see them play Newcastle United today. This is the second of important tests that started with Sporting on the weekend and see they play Liverpool later in the week.
Injury reports for the match have been less than desired and it is unclear whether we will see Danny Koevermans back on the pitch. While he appears to be coming along well, it is likely best for him to sit or see very limited action as this injury needs to be dealt with before the start of the campaign. However one thing that they have erred in training the last few days is the use of artificial turf for training, which I know personally is giving their physiotherapy department fits. Not only is this a surface they shouldn’t be training on normally but given the rash of muscle strains of late, they need to move off this surface asap.
I will be reporting on the match after it is completed.
