Ola Toivonen handed red-card ban
By: j | February 11th, 2009Following his red-card against Volendam for throwing an elbow at Tim Bakens, Ola Toivonen has been handed a two match ban by the KNVB with a further one match ban contingent upon his behaviour. The club accepted the ban and he will now miss important matches against AZ and FC Groningen before returning against sc Heerenveen.
This seems to be a reoccurring theme as discipline on the pitch suffers. While I support playing a “hard-nosed” style of Football, it is a great deal different that throwing a dangerous elbow with an intent to injure. It was very obvious he swung the elbow rising to the ball and the KNVB had to act with a suspension. While the young Swedish international is an engaging talent, his lack of discipline will cost the team with his absence and you can guarantee he is quickly gaining the reputation for this.
