PSV @ AZ Alkmaar match preview

By: j | September 19th, 2008

After being completely humbled at home by Atlético Madrid in Champions League action this week, PSV faces struggling AZ Alkmaar.

Louis van Gaal’s squad has started the Eredivisie season losing both of it’s matches, 2-1 at home to NAC Breda in the season opener and a miserable 3-0 beating by ADO Den Haag last week.

It has been four years since they were able to gain a point against PSV at home as they have lost the last three matches:

Feb ‘08 AZ Alkmaar 0 – 2 PSV
Oct ‘06 AZ Alkmaar 1 – 3 PSV
Feb ‘06 AZ Alkmaar 1 – 2 PSV
Feb ‘05 AZ Alkmaar 0 – 0 PSV

AZ will be without Joey Didulica, Australian international Brett Holmen, Gijs Luirink and Marko Vejinović while PSV heads into the match without backup ‘keeper Bas Roorda, Jan Kromkamp and Nordin Amrabat, who is in the sin-bin.

I will report on this match one this match concludes.

Daniel – I usually don’t (actually never) predict an outcome but try to provide insight. I think that’s important as well since most teams aren’t represented and I’ve got too much respect for the clubs. However, this match is made for PSV to get back on track. AZ isn’t playing well, PSV’s ego is a bit battered from the CL match. I think PSV will come out on top and is likely to keep a clean sheet. Thanks for adding your comments btw – not many visit here.

If AZ gets embarassed again, when might the Van Gaal rumors start up?

I think they’d be foolish to let Louis van Gaal go. They certainly won’t improve without him.
