PSV continues to disappoint with draw to NAC Breda
By: j | January 24th, 2009
Eredivisie champions PSV continued on their disappointing run, playing to a 2-2 draw against NAC Breda. With the draw, PSV stands in fifth place, a massive fifteen points behind top of the table AZ and in desperate need of a victory.
PSV took the lead fourteen minutes in when Balázs Dzsudzsák’s cross was re-directed in by Mexican international Carlos Salcido. Unfortunately for the former Chivas man, just before the break he was the victim of an own goal as he sent Nordin Boukhari’s effort in. Although PSV possessed a number of notable scoring opportunities after the break, it was the Breda side that took the lead when Joonas Kolkka scored with sixteen minutes remaining. Down by one, PSV managed to find the draw with Ibrahim Afelley scoring two minutes later from inside the box. While the match was far from pleasing to the eye and another in a long list of disappoints this campaign, it did mark the debut of Swedish international Ola Toivonen for PSV. While the twenty-two year-old wasn’t able to find himself onto the score-sheet today, he possess bales of talent that will surely bring good fortune to PSV.
PSV returns to action next Sunday against De Graafschap.
