PSV rebounds against ADO Den Haag
By: j | October 29th, 2008
After a very difficult series of losses, PSV rebounded with a 2-0 victory over ADO Den Haag. It was by no-means a brilliant victory but after demoralizing losses it was an important statement. Additionally Hubb Stevens switch-up of the lineup was an important statement that positions are earned and not a given. While that shouldn’t be the case for professionals much less defending champions, it was an intelligent managerial approach.
After a scoreless first half in The Hague veteran Eric Addo provided the winning margin off a perfect 1-2 from Otman Bakkal. PSV were lucky to escape the match being leveled with a late charge by the home squad however Otman Bakkal added the second goal on the counter as time wound down.
After the match, Hubb Stevens assessed the fine performance:
“I feel my side deserved to win the match.”
“I am happy with the three points but I realise we did not put in a particularly sparkling performance. There is still ample room for improvement and we will keep working hard to make progress.”
ADO Den Haag manager André Wetzel rightfully noted his support:
“We went into the game with the intention to give our all. We wanted to put pressure on their defence and that’s what we did. I am proud of my players.”
PSV returns to play against Willem II Tilburg this Saturday.
