PSV v NAC Breda match preview
By: j | January 23rd, 2009NAC Breda visit a shaken Philips Stadion, with the defending Eredivisie champions drifting in fifth in the table and only two victories to show for their previous six matches. With the club a distant thirteen points behind top of the table AZ, the situation around De Herdgang is far from comfortable for PSV manager Hubb Stevens.
Facing NAC Breda, the match will be without their superb striker Matthew Amoah who suffered an injury this week against FC Groningen in the KNVB Beker. While the club pulled through in a thrilling encounter, along with the injury Robert Maaskant’s side were forced to play a full one-hundred twenty minutes Wednesday evening and will be likely be a morsel leg-heavy.
Huub Stevens will dress newcomer Ola Toivonen for the match and could see time coming off the bench, as per the manager:
“He’s been working hard at training all week to adapt to the team. I am happy with the way he has adapted to his new surroundings. I hope to bring him on as a substitute against NAC Breda, but that depends on the score of the match. Ola has been given time to get used to his new team mates. We know he has great skills and we hope he’ll show them on the pitch. He is physically fit, but needs to play matches to be fully match-fit.”
The will however be without the services of Dirk Marcellis and Jan Kromkamp to injury as well as Reimond Manco who has the honour for playing for his native Peru in the South American Under-20 Championships.
With AZ, Ajax, Twente, Heerenveen all in highly winnable matches over the weekend, a win is an absolute must or PSV’s Champions League hopes could disappear.
