PSV v Volendam match preview
By: j | February 7th, 2009Following PSV’s stunning 6-0 defeat of ADO Den Haag, the defending champions are back in the race for a European spot. A victory would draw them back level in points with Heerenveen at fourth and edge them a morsel closer to high-flying Twente in second.
With Sunday’s match against relegation threatened Volendam, they face the worst defending side in the Eredivisie having given up an incredible fifty goals in twenty-one matches. Due in-part to their home surface is artificial turf and many teams have a problem adapting, they have shown a more competitive side at home. Dwight Lodeweges is noting minor muscular strains with Jérémie Bréchet, Ibrahim Afellay and Jason Culina but insistent that they will be ready. Although that is a highly questionable decision given the conditions, he said of the match:
“I expect all players to be available.
“FC Volendam play their matches on artificial turf, which requires a different kind of preparation. Fortunately, the frost forced us to practise on artificial pitches a lot, so we have become accustomed to artificial turf. We will not underestimate Sunday’s opponents. We have seen them in action a number of times and think they are a tough team to beat.”
Enjoy the match and as always I will report on it as it concludes.
