PSV wins Johan Cruijff Schaal XIII
By: j | August 24th, 2008Hubb Stevens started his reign at PSV right with a 2-0 victory over Feyenoord in the Johan Cruijff Schaal on the strength of goals by Danko Lazovic and Dirk Marcellis.
PSV dominated the match from start to finish with crisp passing and good movement. Ibrahim Afellay, Nordin Amrabat, Danko Lazović, Edison Méndez and Nordin Amrabat were singled out for their contribution in particular. Hubb Stevens started the match with PSV in a 4-2-3-1 using Nordin Amrabat, Ibrahim Afellay and Edison Méndez servicing Danko Lazović up-front. PSV showed superb flourish in the attack and very little if any, defensive lapses with the Feyenoord counter-based-attack.
With the score nil at half, PSV went forward in the attack with Danko Lazović pouncing on a deflected Mike Zonneveld center and heading it to the back of the net. Ten minutes later, Mike Zonneveld’s free kick was headed home by Olympian Dirk Marcellis. PSV had ample opportunity to add to the score however the few finishing miscues led to the match ending comfortably at 2-0 and a perfect start to the campaign.
Finally after what seems like a horribly long wait, the start of the Eredivisie season is here as PSV visits FC Utrecht next Saturday. I will be posting a full review as we approach the match.
