“we think we have found the solution”
By: j | January 16th, 2009Trying to dispel notions of unrest within the Eredivisie champions is not an easy one but with PSV languishing eleven points behind top of the table AZ, manager Hubb Stevens believes he has found the secret.
Although he provided few specifics on tactics to be employed against Roda JC this Sunday he noted in his pre-match press conference:
“We’ll approach Roda JC differently this time. When we met them at home, they found plenty of space, but we think we have found the solution.”
In the October 25 meeting of the clubs, Roda JC defeated PSV 3-2 at Philips Stadion in what is best described as a amateurish display of defending.
Ola Toivonen is unlikely to play in the match as his registration is still not completed and Carlos Salcido is unlikely as he has only taken part in one training session since returning from México. With question the possible lineup Hubb Stevens continued a closed door theme:
“We will train on Saturday and our starting eleven will be announced before Sunday’s kick-off.”
However in the most peculiar of comments and one that surely will not go unnoticed, Hubb Stevens specifically pointed out the “family unity” of heading for training camp in La Manga:
“Our stay on the Spanish coast has met expectations. We have taken steps forward in all fields- physically, technically, tactically and mentally. Team spirit is all-important and the feeling of togetherness has been strengthened.”
While I significantly question from a professional’s vantage the team building aspect of a stay at a beautiful resort, this says nothing of the rift this created amongst die-hard supporters as the club turned away from long time meet and greet functions. For a club, like many in the Netherlands, who earnestly appreciate their commitment to the community, if they are to be “a family” it starts with your supporters.
