Welcome Francisco Javier Rodríguez

By: j | July 14th, 2008

With the first day of training camp, I have to be honest much of my attention turned to new Defender Francisco Javier Rodríguez who came over from Chivas of the Primera División de México. I’ve watched him play for years now, seen him develop through tough learning periods and today, knowing how much this opportunity meant to him, brought a special significance to this first day. “El Maza” as he is so-often called in reference to his birth place of stunning Mazatlán, has waited for this day with tremendous anticipation as it is not only the result of many years of hard work but equally provides him the chance to play alongside good friend, El Tri compatriot and Chivas alumni Carlos Salcido.

Francisco is a superb Defender who through years of dedication has solidified his play and shown marketable improvement. He has shown good vision on the pitch and decision-making abilities within the onslaught of offensive-minded game in México. Equally his tall physical presence and emerging ability to defend set pieces will prove to be a tremendous asset particularly against the likes of Mr. Huntelaar & company. I expect him to adjust quickly to the Eredivisie and emerge as structurally key component of the team just as Carlos has.
